Tasting notes
Wine
Some spice to start, along with dark bramble fruits such as blackberry, black raspberry and plum. Notes of white pepper and cocoa with integrated tannins provide a good texture and structure to the wine. A fruit-filled finish, with a little licorice, that lingers well.
* 100% Estate Grown Fruit from the Middleburg Virginia AVA
Production notes
Production
Merlot is the major component of this blend, characterizing it as somewhat reminiscent of a “Right Bank” Bordeaux blend. The Merlot was picked September 10 thru September 18, the Cabernet Franc September 26 thru October 5, and the Petit Verdot was harvested on September 25. 2019 was a really good, warm, sunny and relatively dry growing season providing a high level of both quantity and certainly quality. The result was optimum ripeness in the grapes leading to concentrated and complex fruit flavors and structure.

"In its youth, this show admirable depth and suprisingly big fruit in perception, plus plenty of power, meaning that you really need to hold this for a year or two for best results...This looks to me like the best Topiary yet...At the price point, you can't go too wrong, no matter what, assuming you like wines with structure."

"A rather closed nose, but of plum blackberry and bark come through. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Clean and straightforward...Drink now."
