Topiary 2017 - Cellar Club Exclusive
91 Points, American Fine Wine
Tasting notes
Wine
Dark cherry folds into strong notes of cedar and white pepper on the nose. The finish has great length, lingering with spice and dark fruits. Full bodied.
* 100% Estate Grown Fruit from the Middleburg Virginia AVA
Production notes
Production
2017 was a good year for growing wine grapes. The harvest of the fruit destined for this wine began with the Petit Verdot on September 29th. Then the Merlot and the Cabernet Franc were picked from October 1st through October 7th. The weather during final ripening and harvest time remained mostly warm and sunny, providing optimal ripeness and acid balance which brought about concentrated and complex fruit flavors.
This wine was then hand harvested, triple sorted, destemmed, gravity fed into open-top stainless steel fermenters all here at Boxwood Estate. The wine was later pumped into french-oak barrels and aged for 15 months.

Pairing with Food
The best thing about a medium-bodied red is its versatility - pairings for both light- AND full-bodied reds will work with it most of the time! Try a range of proteins, from roasted pork to duck confit to short ribs. Mushrooms, eggplant and root vegetables are great meatless options!
Past Pairings from Boxwood Special Events include:
-
Sfeeha: meat pies in puff pastry
-
Brussels Sprout & Bacon “Sliders”
-
Cranberry Pomegranate Bruschetta
