Boxwood 2019 - Cellar Club Exclusive
90 Points, James Suckling
Tasting notes
Wine
Aromas of vanilla, fig preserves, and light tobacco. A smooth texture with noticeable but mature tannins. Good mouthfeel with notes of bright fruit flavors; olive, black pepper, black plum. Finishes clean with licorice tones.
Production notes
Production
2019 was an excellent vintage dominated by warm sunny weather. It nicely provided us with a bountiful crop of fully ripened, flavorful fruit. The Boxwood blend is the wine from this vintage with Cabernet Sauvignon which is also the highest component of the four varieties blended. As such, one could consider this a “Left Bank” Bordeaux -style blend. The spectrum of fruit in this wine covered the whole of harvest when we began picking the Merlot on September 10th, went through the Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and then finished with the Cabernet Sauvignon (and a little more Cabernet Franc) on October 5th. The roughly 67 tons of red grapes harvested in just shy of a month made for a very busy and intense, though due to the quality, exciting harvest.

Pairing with Food
The best thing about a medium-bodied red is its versatility - pairings for both light- AND full-bodied reds will work with it most of the time! Try a range of proteins, from roasted pork to duck confit to short ribs. Mushrooms, eggplant and root vegetables are great meatless options!

"Baking spice, red cherry and plum on the nose. Medium-bodied with soft tannins. Straightforward, with notes of cinnamon and clove driving the palate. Red Cherry comes back again at the finish...Drink now."
