Topiary 2016 - Cellar Club Exclusive
91 Points, James Suckling
Tasting notes
Wine
Dark garnet color, a delicate nose of red currants and blackberries. A strong fruit character precedes woody tannins and subtle hints of graphite and herbal notes.
* 100% Estate Grown Fruit from the Middleburg Virginia AVA
Production notes
Production
The Merlot was picked September 22nd thru September 23rd, the Cabernet Franc was picked October 3rd thru October 6th, the Petit Verdot was picked October 3rd thru October 4th, the Cabernet Sauvignon was picked October 12th. With ideal weather through the Spring, 2016 was a great growing season that saw more rain than usual in August, giving way to a spectacularly sunny and dry harvest period. This resulted in optimum ripeness and acid balance which brought about concentrated and complex fruit flavors.

Pairing with Food
The best thing about a medium-bodied red is its versatility - pairings for both light- AND full-bodied reds will work with it most of the time! Try a range of proteins, from roasted pork to duck confit to short ribs. Mushrooms, eggplant and root vegetables are great meatless options!
Past Pairings from Boxwood Special Events include:
-
Sfeeha: meat pies in puff pastry
-
Brussels Sprout & Bacon “Sliders”
-
Cranberry Pomegranate Bruschetta
